Journey

I am bad at remembering what band did what song and blah blah blah.  My friends say that I know nothing about classic rock and that I better learn before they do horrible things.  So I mean, I know lots of classic rock songs, but I don't necessarily attribute them to any one band.  And then, I discovered Journey.

The thing about them is, I actually love like everything they've ever done, but just never knew that they did it.  Now, you may think me an idiot, but I discovered a few weeks ago that they did Faithfully.  Who knew?  Not me...

So last night I was listening to their new singer sing it (He is filipino btw, and amazing) and it grabbed me the right way.  I am not normally emo, but yesterday was quite the emo day.  Anyway, the whole song melts my soul, especially this part:

And being apart ain't easy
On this love affair
Two strangers learn to fall in love again
I get the joy
Of rediscovering you
Oh girl, you stand by me
I'm forever yours... faithfully.

You can see the video of the band ZOO covering this song here.  Their singer is now the singer for Journey, and apparently they found him on YouTube.  Internet ftw.

So yesterday I went the whole day without going on the internet, checking my email, or logging into AIM.  It was quite fantastic, I must say.  I actually spent most of the day in Boston with Mike and his family.  But, even when I got back I didn't feel the need to jump right on.  I think this experiment is going to go well.

In other news, my friend Katie has recently peaked my interest in playing WoW again.  She has a mage on my server that is almost the same level as my druid.  When she gets to the same level, I might start playing again to play with her.  It would be a completely casual thing that I might do once or twice a week in my spare time.  But, I refuse to play until at least my thesis is over.

My thesis, by the way, is going very well.  I have completed chapter three, which means that I have only two more chapters to go.  The next one is about the NSA wiretapping program and retractive immunity given to telecoms and what implications this has in a duopolistic broadband market.  I can't wait.  The last chapter is just my assessment of the situation and where I think it is going to go.  I am attending a conference at Harvard tomorrow given by the FCC where they are going to talk about network neutrality.  It promises to be interesting.

Ciao!

SSTI

I woke up early today and played my morning game of Carcassonne on xbl.  Then, at a loss for things to do before work and half a bowl of cereal still to eat I turned the television on.  I began watching the today show and they did a segment on people addicted to their computers.  Now, I am not as bad as some people, but I do think that there are times when my time could be better spent not on the internet.

So, per their suggestion, I am going to take one day a week and not use my computer at all, except for academic purposes.  Also, on that day, I am not going to text anyone, or take phone calls from anyone except my roommates and family.  This day will be for me, and the people that I am spending time with.  No excuses.

I decided that Saturday is probably the best day for me to do this.  So, what shall I call it?  Wireless-First-Part-Of-The-Weekend?  Not catchy enough...  Saturday Sans Teh Interwebz?

That has a nice ring to it.
